Last Monday I was checking my email and read a daily devotional that I subscribe to. It was titled "Lack of Knowledge," which I immediately recognized from Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." It refers to the bad consequences of rejecting righteousness and not understanding what sin is.

At the very end of the devotional, they referenced Mark 4:24, which made me very compelled to investigate further, so I opened my NASB and saw it was in the Parable of the Lamp. I read it from the beginning (Mark 4:21), "A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on a lampstand? For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear..." What struck me about this was what Yeshua (Jesus) said about things being hidden for the purpose of eventually being revealed, which I've been called to do.

The theme of revealing things goes with the theme of the lack of knowledge because many important concepts need to be corrected in the church. These issues are being made clear now because God wants His people prepared for His return. God's marriage plans are an important part of the Last Days of Revelation (Revelation 19:7-19:9), but to be included there are righteous acts we need to complete. They are the wedding garments and "fine linen" given to us as written in the New Testament (Matthew 22:122:14, 25:1-25:34; Revelation 19:8). One of those righteous acts is to actually belong the Lord and be saved. After all, how can you be a part of the God's Bride if you aren't in His Kingdom? I got a lot of guidance on this that is summarized in The True Gospel and Imposters, so look there for the details.

Some days after I got the email, I did a Net search for the type of lamp referred to in Mark 4:21. It is described by my NASB's notes as "a very small clay bowl made with a spout to hold a wick." The top search result brought me to a page with the following image showing an ancient lamp from the top. The site said it is the best choice for a lamp common in Judea during the ministry of Yeshua.

A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it?...
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear...
