Last Monday I was checking my email and read a daily devotional that I subscribe to. It was titled "Lack of Knowledge," which I immediately recognized before I opened the message. It refers to Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." which I was familiar with because of guidance related to the consequences of not fully understanding God's ways.

At the very end of the devotional, they referenced Mark 4:24, which made me very compelled to investigate further, so I opened my NASB and saw it was in the Parable of the Lamp. I read it from the beginning (Mark 4:21), "A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on a lampstand? For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear..."

What struck me about this was not just the lamp linked to guidance I got, but also what Jesus said about things being hidden for the purpose of eventually being revealed. The Parable of the Lamp doesn't just refer to the mystery of Jesus as Lord God and Savior, but also to all the hidden information in God's Word that cannot be brought to understanding until He reveals it.

One of those mysteries was mentioned by Apostle Paul briefly in Ephesians 5:32. It has to do with the marriage of Christ to the church and how we are to become the Pure Bride - the perfected church and People of God.

The theme of revealing things goes with the theme of the lack of knowledge because many important concepts need to be corrected in the church. These issues are being made clear now because God wants His people prepared for His return. His marriage plans are a central part of the Last Days of Revelation (Revelation 19:7-19:9), but the church has assumed that the marriage will simply happen. It will happen but to be included there are righteous acts we need to complete. They are the wedding garments and "fine linen" given to us as written in the New Testament (Matthew 22:122:14, 25:1-25:34; Revelation 19:8). For more details see Marching From Behind The Veil.

Some days after I got this guidance, I did a Net search for the type of lamp referred to in Mark 4:21 - "a very small clay bowl made with a spout to hold a wick." The top search result brought me to a page with this image. The site said it is the best choice for a lamp common in Judea during the ministry of Jesus.

A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it?...
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear...
